My name is Mrs. Sarah Kilpatrick, I am the School Counselor for all students in grades 5 through 8. I earned my B.A.from Kean University in Teacher of the Handicapped, my M.A. from Wilmington University in School Counseling, and my M.Ed. from Thomas Edison University in Educational Leadership.   I have been a counselor at Southampton Schools for over  20 years. Prior to coming to Southampton, I was a special education teacher in Jersey City and Salem, NJ for 10 years.   I love working with the students, parents and staff at Southampton.
My main goal is to help develop your child's academic, social and emotional goals.  
In addition to being the grade 5-8 counselor, I am also the Substance Awareness Coordinator, the Anti-bullying Specialist, RtI/I&Rs committee chairperson and 504 coordinator.
I run a Cross-Age Mentoring Program in which students in grades 7 & 8 meet with students in grades 3-5.
The Peer to Peer group, 8th grade students who perform skits to inform 6th grade students of the dangers of alcohol, tobacco and other drugs
Counseling services are available to all students-students can self-refer, or be referred by parents or staff members.
Services that I provide are:
  • Individual counseling
  • Group counseling based on need: Organizational/study skills group, friendship/social group, grief/loss group, divorce group, anger management 
  • Classroom lessons 
  • Collaborate with staff, and parents to identify needs of students academically, socially and emotionally
  • Help connect students and their families to community and mental health resources.
  • Coordinate school wide lessons and activities to promote cultural awareness, and positive character traits
I work closely with representatives from Seneca, and B.C.I.T. to bring current information to you and your 8th grade student to help them reach their high school goals.

Contacting the Counselor in the event of a school closure

In the event of a closure, email will be checked daily between 9am and  2pm.  Conference calls can be scheduled if needed during the closure.  Please email if you would like a conference call to discuss concerns regarding your child.
