My Teaching Philosophy
My role as a teacher is not just to teach my class. It is to learn how to teach each individual student in my class. To be an effective teacher, my teaching strategies must meet the unique interests and needs of each learner. By modeling a mindset of empathy, I can foster social, emotional, and intellectual growth for my students.
I am passionate about teaching AND learning, and my positive energy is often contagious in the classroom. Using principles of a responsive classroom, my students work together to build a supportive, caring community where all learners feel confident and safe. I incorporate many strategies to motivate students and build self-esteem.
Some of my most effective lessons have been interactive read aloud lessons with rich literature. A good book can bring reading alive for students, and it can be a springboard for learning in all areas. Igniting the spark of curiosity through opportunities for self-selected learning, project-based learning, and design thinking is key. This type of teaching fosters critical thinking, builds self esteem, and enhances student leadership skills.
As a senior teacher in Southampton Township Schools, my continued education is a priority so that my teaching strategies remain state-of-the-art. I believe that every student is deserving of a highly effective teacher. I feel great satisfaction seeing each of my students progress to their greatest potential.
